7th HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017 - Round 3

The third round of HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament has witnessed the great success of Viet Nam young players.

The 20-year-old player from Hanoi, Tran Tuan Minh (Elo 2,503) is the most deserved name when he won Diu Viacheslav (Russia, Elo 2,421) after 36 moves. This victory helped Tran Tuan Minh split the top spot with Wang Hao (China). Interestingly, at the Malaysia International Chess Tournament last year, Tuan Minh and Wang Hao split in the top spot with the same score, but the China player's rank is higher thanks to the tiebreak.

The U10 World Champion in 2012, the U12 World Champion in 2014, Nguyen Anh Khoi (Elo 2.459) also perform a great game when defeats Lu Shanglei (China, Elo 2,624). The victory after 38 moves brought Khoi to top 2 with 2.5 points. The 15-year-old from Ho Chi Minh City is the youngest player in the top 10.

At the third round, 17-year-old Tran Minh Thang (Elo 2.406) defeated Michalik Peter (Czech Republic) after 33 moves. Few know that Tran Minh Thang is Tran Tuan Minh's younger brother. This player has won many international prizes and is considered as the chess talent of Hanoi. With 2.5 points after three games, Tran Minh Thang was "crowded" in the top two with his brothers like Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Anh Dung. At this game, Vietnam's No. 1 player Le Quang Liem (Elo 2.712) accepts a quick draw after 23 moves with Le Tuan Minh (elo 2,475).

In the Challenge Group, there are 8 players who win all 3 games, in which Nguyen Huynh Tuan Hai has the highest extra tiebreak, leading the way.

The fourth round to be played tomorrow (14.3), there are interesting match between Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Anh Khoi, Tran Tuan Minh and Wang Hao.
